Brooks was the MP for Braintree (2005-2015) and was elected the Minister for Civil Society (2014). He is a leading advocate for housing reform, equality and tackling youth unemployment. 

 Brooks Newmark served in the Coalition Government as Minister for Civil Society, with responsibility for charities, the voluntary sector and youth (2014) having previously served on the Treasury Select Committee (2012 -14 and 2006-7) and as a Government Whip and Lord Commissioner HM Treasury (2010 - 12).

In Opposition Brooks also served as a Whip (2007-10). He was also the Co-Chairman and Founder of Women2Win, which was set up with the aim to encourage more women into politics and public service. He was  also the Founder of the Million Jobs Campaign to tackle youth unemployment.

Brooks Newmark welcomes Government support for Syrian refugees in Turkey and calls on the Government to support an initiative at Geneva II to ensure that there are safe corridors inside Syria so that we can maximise the safety of the majority of Syrians.

Brooks calls for dual approach on Syria

Speaking during a debate on Syria and EU sanctions, Brooks Newmark calls on the Foreign Secretary to make use of the forthcoming UK presidency of the UN Security Council and election in Iran to embark on a strategy of radical diplomatic engagement with all parties and also lift the arms embargo and threaten support for the Free Syria army.
