The Community Acheivement Awards are part of a new scheme initiated by Braintree District Council to recognise some of the unsung heroes of the community. The six winners were chosen by a panel of judges from 75 nominations, and spanned across the age spectrum.
Melissa Finch and Katie Gibson won the young person category, Dr Ronald Green and Keith Newbitt were rewarded for their contribution to the environment and conservation, Bill Norman and Georgie Roy won in the contribution to a voluntary body or to the community category, and Tony Parish was presented with the Chairman's Award.
Brooks says, "I am delighted to hear of so many in our community who are working tirelessly to improve the lives of others - this is a real testament to the spirit and character of our community. I was particularly impressed to learn of the diversity of the recipients of the awards, who spanned in age from 12 to 89 years and were awarded for assisting both the environment and people. We should not only take pride in their achievements, but also learn from their exemplary actions."
