Brooks joined other Essex MPs and MEPs, former NFU President and local farmer Sir Richard Butler, and current chairman of Essex NFU, Rosemary Padfield, at a celebratory local produce lunch at Writtle College in Chelmsford.
Brooks said, "Over the last 100 years the NFU has stood at the forefront of farming and rural issues in Britain, promoting our rural countryside and producing excellent British produce. Our farmers really are the backbone of the British rural economy and I think it is important that we all support them in ensuring the success of British agriculture for the next 100 years. Farmers have had a turbulent time recently, but a great way to show our support is through all of us really making an effort to 'buy British'. I believe it is also about time that the Government wakes up to the current reality and real dangers faced by our farmers and begins thinking of Britain's agricultural future.
