Brooks meets local firefighters at lobby of Parliament

On Wednesday 21st October Brooks Newmark met with local firefighters as part of a national campaign to lobby Parliament and their MPs.

Hundreds of firefighters from across the United Kingdom attended the lobby of Parliament to call on their MPs to scrap regional controls and to defend control jobs and conditions.

The firefighters from local stations were particularly concerned about reduced crew levels on their autonomous appliances, the regionalisation programme and associated costs and delays of new IT technology, and the phasing between two local headquarters.

Brooks said, “All of us in the community rely on the valuable work and dedication of our local firefighters and I was very pleased to meet with some of them today to learn more about their concerns. We had an in-depth discussion and I will certainly follow up on the points they made. In the current economic climate it is especially important that we get value for money in all we do, yet it is paramount, for all of our safety and well-being, that our firefighters have the resources and investment they need to continue to do their jobs well.”
