Currently, over 200, 000 disabled children and young people in Britain need the help of Get Kids Going, as it endeavours to provide disabled children with specially built sports wheelchairs, and helps and encourages children to compete in sporting events by giving them 'sports grants'. The support offered by Get Kids Going also extends to providing personalized manual wheelchairs for children to use in their everyday life.Raising money to improve the lives of disabled children is a cause Brooks firmly believes in, having already completed the Flora London Marathon earlier this year for the charity PARC. With the Great North Run the world's most popular half-marathon road-running event, Brooks lined up alongside 52 000 other competitors this year, completing the course in a respectable time of 2 hours, 35 minutes and 30 seconds. Other notable participants raising money for Get Kids Going included two paralympians; Shelly Woods who won a silver and a bronze in Beijing, and Brian Alldis.
Brooks says 'although the race was tough, it was immensely rewarding to raise money to make a difference to a disabled child's life. Get Kids Going is a particularly unique charity, providing disabled children with the opportunities that many of us take for granted.'
Brooks says 'not only was this a great way to stay fit but it also helps to create awareness and raise money for a very worthwhile charity, Get Kids Going. There seems no better way to raise money for disabled children to participate in sports than to participate in sports ourselves!'For more information or to donate to Get Kids Going please visit their website at www.getkidsgoing.com
