Surgeries

Surgery Policy:

Due to strict parliamentary convention, Brooks is only able to take up cases on behalf of those who reside in his constituency, have a business based there, or those acting on behalf of a relative who ives in the constituency.

To find out if you are one of Brooks’ constituents please visit: http://www.upmystreet.com/commons/l/

The best way to contact Brooks is through post – it avoids mistakes that can be made over the telephone, provides him with all the relevant paperwork to make your case, and helps him deal with matters more quickly.

When writing, please ensure that you include all the information and documents relevant to your case, as well as your full address with postcode and any relevant reference numbers.

If you are writing on behalf of somebody else, please include a letter from them which gives their written permission for you to act on their behalf – this is necessary because of data protection regulations.

Brooks can help you with matters for which central government or Parliament is responsible, for example:

Immigration issues dealt with by the Home Office

Tax problems involving HM Revenue and Customs.

Benefits difficulties dealt with by the Department for Work and Pensions (but not council tax or housing benefit.)

If you have a specific issue you would like to take up with a government department or minister, Brooks can also write to the relevant person on your behalf. In all of these cases though, we will need to have your written permission to take up your case.

Brooks has no jurisdiction over private matters such as employment disputes or customer complaints, and he is not allowed to interfere with or try to influence legal cases.

Brooks will always try to deal as best he can with every case he is contacted about but for matters dealt with by the District Council or County Council your first point of contact should be your District or County Councillor. To find out who your local District or County Councillor is please visit:

Surgeries are held regularly in the constituency. If you would like to make an appointment, please call the office on 01376 512 386.
